Here is the detail for the various workshops that are on over the weekend

Practical underground digital camera workshop – Colin Bunce
Description;
Initial indoor session spent looking at digital camera settings and accessories suitable for underground photography. Underground session at Polldubh in small groups using various settings to optimise photos. Tripods / slave units / long exposures. Pictures taken to be used in digital editing session on Sunday
Places : Ideally 8 (max 12)
Level : Interest in cave photography (ie prepared to stand around getting cold)
Bring : Any photo equipment (camera, flashes, slaves, tripods) you have. Camera lead to download photos to computer is very important.
Enrolment: Friday evening at registration

 

Route-finding practical
Description; This will rely on compass and laminated survey to find ones way through the Maze section in Poll na Gollum. If there is sufficient interest the group will be split into SRT V’s Non-SRT competent
Places : 6 to 12
Level : previous caving experience necessary, knowledge of compasses and surveys and advantage
Bring : your own caving gear, compass
Enrolment: Friday evening at registration

 

Practical underground cave surveying
Description; Demonstration of cave surveying with some hands on stuff as well
Places : Ideally 6-8
Level : previous caving experience necessary
Bring : your own caving gear, clinometer, tape and compass if you have them
Enrolment: Friday evening at registration

Indoor Workshop

Using Photoshop (CS2) to enhance cave photographs - Jerry Wooldridge FRPS.
Description: A run through of “Photoshop CS" and possibly also Elements, depending on demand. The workshop will be working a lot with layers & particularly Adjustment Layers (a non destructive way of working on images). I use a PC - so Mac workers will need to be aware of the slight differences of operations.
Places: 6 interactive (ie with their own PC) but as many onlookers as can comfortably fit
Level: Fair level of computer literacy and digital cave photography experience
Bring: Feel free to bring prints along - particularly if you find it difficult to get good output. Also bring your own laptop and digital prints which you can work on as part of the workshop
Enrolment: This course can be enrolled for at enrolment on Friday evening

Photography Competition
This year the photo competition will be judged by Jerry Wooldridge and split into 3 categories
Prints – these should be mounted or framed
Digital Images – these can be brought on CD or flash drive
Humorous – digital images only; these will be projected and judged by audience reaction, based on the print and the caption.
You can enter your print or image into the competition by giving it to Ed Whelan at registration. If you are unable to make registration, entry can be made to either Ed Whelan or Jerry Wooldridge up to lunchtime on Saturday.
